Surprising a Good Son on His Birthday
Surprised my son at his birthday party—his excitement was priceless!
Short Story: “About Last Night”
Last night was one of those moments that will forever be etched in my memory. It was an evening I decided to surprise my son, Evangelist Kingsley Freeman Ogbonna, in a way that would make him feel truly cherished. As a father, I’ve always been proud of him, but tonight I wanted to show him just how much he means to me. What I didn’t expect, however, was the surprise that would unfold.
I had heard that his lovely wife, Hope Kingsley Ogbonna, had planned a surprise birthday party for him. She wanted to show her husband how much she values him, and knowing her heart, I could tell it would be an unforgettable celebration. What I didn’t know, and what she forgot to mention to me, was the exact details of the party.
Now, I know how these things go: sometimes in the midst of planning, you get lost in the excitement and forget to mention every little thing to everyone involved. So, when I showed up at their home unannounced, I didn’t realize that I was walking into a full-blown surprise party for my son.
There I was, standing at the doorstep, ready to give my son a simple, heartfelt birthday surprise of my own. But little did I know, I was about to gate-crash an already orchestrated surprise. I knocked on the door, and when it opened, there he was—Kingsley, looking both shocked and delighted. His face lit up, but it wasn’t the kind of surprise I had imagined. I had walked straight into the surprise party!
The laughter, gasps, and joyful exchanges that followed were priceless. Kingsley, his eyes wide, couldn’t believe I was there. Hope, equally surprised but full of grace, greeted me with a smile and an exclamation, “Dad! You didn’t say anything about coming!”
I couldn’t help but laugh at the situation. There I was, completely uninvited, but joyously welcomed nonetheless. The warmth of the room, filled with friends and family, made me realize something beautiful: when you’re genuine, when you live with sincerity and truth, people will always show up for you, even when you least expect it.
That evening, amidst the laughter and love, I was reminded of the incredible journey my son has had. I watched him and his wife interact, a reflection of the beautiful bond they share. It was a reminder that they are both walking their own paths with faith, passion, and purpose. As a parent, that’s all I could ever ask for—seeing your children grow, thrive, and stay true to their destiny.
So, as I sit here writing this, I want to say, “Happy Birthday, Son!” You’ve made me proud in more ways than I can count. And as you continue on your journey, may you always remain grounded in truth, genuine in heart, and steadfast in purpose.
Let’s all say a prayer for Kingsley—may God continue to bless him with wisdom, strength, and favor as he walks this beautiful path of life.
